• #6, $5.3 million: Shutter.
• #7, $4.875 million: 10,000 BC. Should I say it? Yes I should. The movie that the critics hate is still up there...

• Rumors say that Wyck Godfrey, the producer of Stephanie Meyers's Twilight (Yes, grammar-Nazis, Myeres's is correct. See Strunk & White Page 1, rule 1.) is considering adapting more of the series to film. My Take: Hundreds of teenage girls are jumping up in down in groups, shrieking with joy.
• The Superman Returns sequel and The Justice League production may be put on hold, as a judge ruled that the heirs of Jerome Siegel (Superman's creator) were entitled to part of the copyright on the character. (Siegel had sold th rights 70 years ago to Detective Comics. My Take: I hate it when judges think they can circumvent the law. Imagine how much this family is going to get from back-royalties.
• Derek Mears, a stuntman for Pirates of the Caribbean films and the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, is the new Jason Voorhees in newest Friday the 13th. My Take: I'm not really into horror, but this should be interesting.

• Legion (a movie about angels) has just added these actors to their cast: Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson, Jon Tenney, Charles S. Dutton, Lucas Black, Kate Walsh, Adrianne Palicki, Kevin Durand and Willa Holland will join Paul Bettany. Filming will begin soon on New Mexico My Take: You know I'm all about angel warfare, so bring it on!

• Tobey Maguire (Spiderman--do I really have to tell you that?) through his company, Maguire Entertainment, will join with Neal Moritz to create the film adaptation of Red 5 Comics' Afterburn. My Take: This seems to be comics becoming films week. It will be interesting to see which of these endless adaptations takes off.
• Michael Dougherty (Superman Returns co-writer), Walt Disney Pictures, and Robert Zemeckis' ImageMovers will create an animated science fiction film, Calling All Robots, which will use the same technology used in Beowulf. My Take: But will people go see if without Angelina Jolie?

• Hugh Jackman, Marc Guggenheim (one of "Eli Stone's" creators), and Virgin Comics plan to create a comic called "Nowhere Man" with the intention of making it a movie. My Take: Jackman seems to be good at impersonating comic book characters...
• No actual contract yet, but if Peter Jackson and Ian McKellen have anything to do about it, McKellen will play Gandalf in The Hobbit. My Take: If McKellen does not play Gandalf, you will probably see riots among all of us fantasy fans. So do world peace a favor and sign the guy.

The Final Cut Box Office Report: 03/24/08

This Weekend's Science Fiction & Fantasy Box Office Report:

• #1, $25.1 million: Horton Hears a Who. Proof that movies don't fail in the spring because people don't go to movies. Movies fail in the spring because they suck. This is Horton's 2nd week in a row at the top, and it has grossed $86.47 million. Already, Horton & 10,000 BC have surpassed the average of all the Academy Award Winning films (less Bourne Supremacy & Rattatou-whatever). You had to hear my first show to know where I'm going there. Anyway, make a movie like Horton that doesn't suck, and people might actually go see it.
• #3, $10.7 million: Shutter. I don't know. $10.7 million for a first week isn't that thrilling for a #2 movie. Maybe everyone is staying home to catch March Madness Basketball.
• #5, $8.66 million, 10,000 BC. Total gross so far: $76.1 million. So the movie that everyone is totally land-blasting has beaten Spiderwick Chronicles and Jumper in the box office? Hmmm.
• #11, $2.18 Doomsday. Oh, the jokes about the title are starting to abound.

This Week's Final Cut Episode Canceled

Instead of deleting the earlier blog, I'm announcing that the 10,000 BC episode of The Final Cut in Movies will not air until the Saturday after Easter, as Ad Astra has kindly given us all the week off.

Patience, my peeps, we will all have a good laugh over the "products" of the ancient velosa raptor/ostrich mating program they must have had during the caveman days (according to the movie) soon enough.
